Data Privacy and Confidentiality
Farmers who register on the BVD Free website will be able to view their personal survey data and herd test results online. By default, this information will also be shared with their nominated veterinarian and/or veterinary practice. Farmers will have the right to restrict access or request the transfer of data permissions to another veterinarian and/or veterinary practice at any time either directly through the website or by contacting the project manager. Veterinary practices will also have the right to request that access to client data be terminated for veterinarians no longer employed with the practice.
We are asking farmers to provide their NAIT location number(s) or LIC/MINDA Participant Code so that we can link their study data directly with their NAIT movement and demographic data. This will help us better understand how cattle movements and spatial proximity to other farms influences the risk of BVD transmission. Personal details will never be used for commercial purposes nor made available to third parties. We will ensure that any results from the studies are presented at a sufficiently aggregated level to prevent identification of individual farms unless prior written consent has been obtained from the farmer to share the information.
All data shared with the project will be stored on a secure password protected computer server and treated with strict confidentiality. Only the project manager, PhD student, and research technician will have direct access to the full database. These individuals have signed legal agreements not to disclose any identifying or business sensitive information. All study findings will be reviewed by the project governance team and industry stakeholders prior to publication to ensure that no harm will come to either the participants or the industry.
Securing your data
Reasonable technical and organisational precautions will be taken to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information. When personal information is no longer required for the purposes for which it was collected it may be deleted.
